There was some talk, toward the end, of a plot by the demon to get them (including the possessed young woman) to the monastery, so that the demon could destroy the last copies of the Book of Solomon. (Something like that--I was zoning out.) Then when they arrived, the demon and his demon buddies possessed the plague-stricken monks. Why couldn't they use the dead monks to destroy the copies to begin with? Why was the witch ruse necessary to them?
A guess: the demons didn't know where the Book of Solomon copies were, only that a suspected witch would be brought to them. However this guess doesn't work if the heroes ever mentioned their destination by name in front of The Girl. Her demon could have then flown off to destroy the copies.
